Wish I'd bought a brew belt

I only bought this for the variable temp controller, however it doesn't work! I've had 2 now (the 1st was replaced as the temp controller didn't work!) And neither of them actually control the temp! At least with a brew belt you can alter the position. These are stuck at around 25°C no matter which way you turn the dial. Save yourself the money and get a brew belt or a fish tank heater with an inkbird. I'll be return this item

Thermostatic heaven

For 40 pint beer bucket brewing I have previously tried a heating belt and pad, but could never get a constant even temperature.

This heater is designed to be totally immersed into the brew (instructions says ideal position is for bottom of heater to be just above sediment in bottom of the bucket), subject to max immersion depth of 40cm. And as it is thermostatically controlled it should kept the right temperature regardless of ambient temperature.

For example :
Current brew was 17 deg C at the start and then sat in a cupboard with an ambient temperate of 15 deg C.
15 hours later the heater had managed to bring the brew up to 23.5 deg C, and it has remained as this temp ever since. So does what it says on the tin.

Comes with a bung pre-threaded on the power cable. The bung also has a standard 7mm/8mm hole for a standard air lock. So to fit this to my brewing bucket I just had to use a drill bit to make a 22mm diameter hole.

Final thoughts : Maybe the factory setting of 24 deg C is a tad high for many brews, so before next brew I may adjust down a couple of degrees.

Only negative is that as the heater and cable are threaded down through the bung and lid means it will be a bit more hassle at the dry hopping stage.
