As Imperial Russia extended its territories into the Baltic States during the early 1780′s, Catherine the Great, Empress of all the Russians fell in love with strong British Stout. Imperial Stout captures the essence of this truly classic beer, with its full body, rich black colour and distinctive dry bitterness. Capped by a smooth, creamy head, it is a brew to be savoured, and enjoyed at its best when served chilled – approximately 5°C or 41°F.

Muntons Imperial Stout

I have brewed this before, hence why I have bought it again. This is a particularly nice stout and one I have thoroughly enjoyed. I have looked at plenty of other brewers comments and understand that some are a bit miffed with Muntons labelling that this is an Imperial Stout. I knew that this was not going to be the strength of a normal Imperial Stout and this did not deter me from purchasing it. I just read the information supplied by brew2bottle and Muntons information. So why did I buy this? I saw some reviews online and YouTube and they were favourable. I have brewed about 4 different stouts and my top ones are the Coopers Irish and now this one. I would not put a fine line between them. The Muntons is a very creamy smooth stout. I brewed this with a temperature controlled brew2bottle heat mat (I use an Inkbird) set at 21°C. I discarded the kit yeast and used Lallemand Nottingham yeast, I also used pure brew. These were the only two items that was additional to the kit that I changed. The stout was very drinkable early and one that may never reach its full potential (hic). My starting gravity was 1.050 and finished at 1.014 with approximately 4.7% abv. I brewed to 22 litres rather than 23. I do prefer it to Guinness, the communication from brew2bottle was good. Delivery was OK, I will add that Royal Mail are abysmal atm in our area and it took about 3 days later than estimated times given by RM. Not a problem as I was not desperate for it. You will not be disappointed with tis stout, just remember the abv is in the 4% area. Bagsy.
